Svi znamo za Camino trail, najpoznatiji pješački pilgrim put Europe na koji se svake godine uputi stotine tisuća hodočasnika i hodača, no jeste li znali da Stari kontinent zapravo ima najdužu šetnicu u Engleskoj? Riječ je o obalnom pješačkom putu koji se proteže kroz skoro cijelu morsku obalu Engleske, a naziv mu je King Charles III England Coast Path. Duljina cijele trase je impresivnih 4345 kilometara, što ju čini i najdužom uređenom obalnom šetnicom svijeta – koju bismo jako, jako rado barem u dijelovima prohodali.
@sambentley Who would you want to go on a coastal walk with this summer? The UK is building the world’s longest coastal path that goes around the whole of England! It’s called the King Charles III England Coast Path, and it will stretch around 2,700 miles, giving people access to some of the best landscapes in the country. The continuous walking route will pass through places like Durdle Door, with its iconic rock archway along the Jurassic Coast where the scientific study of dinosaurs originated. It’ll pass through adorable little fishing villages across Cornwall in the South West, like Mousehole and Port Isaac. And you can even step away from the coast, and follow the Hadrian’s Wall footpath along the Northern tip, which used to represent the boundary of the Roman Empire’s presence in the British Isles! I actually did a section along the east coast, called the North Norfolk Coastal Path and saw so many incredible birds, so I 100% recommend that section! All the major sections around the coast path are finished and ready to be walked, but it’s still technically under development until they finish linking them all together by the end of the year. Scotland and Wales are also constructing their own trails which will join onto it! Sama trasa počinje od Berwick-upon-Tweeda na sjeveru pa seže sve do Land’s Enda u Cornwallu. Uređivanje cijele trase trajalo je 16 godina, a vidikovci koji se na njoj nalaze navodno su apsolutno spektakularni. Ruta posjetitelje vodi niz litice, obronke, pješčane sprudove, klifove i brežuljke Engleske, a posjećuje i brojne ribarske luke i sela koja odišu starim engleskim šarmom.

Ime je šetnica dobila po novom kralju Charlesu, nakon smrti kraljice Elizabete II. Trenutačno je savršeno uređeno oko 80 posto cijelog puta, dok se na preostalih 20-ak posto još odvijaju manji infrastrukturni radovi.
Dokaz ljepote ove trase je i činjenica da se ona prostire na najnovijem nacionalnom prirodnom rezervatu Engleske, Seven Sisters u East Sussexu, a koje je poznato po specifičnim poplavnim livadama i travnjacima na kojima žive mnoge endemske vrste. Vrijedno posjeta, zar ne? Ako volite neobična putovanja, mnogo hodanja i spektakularne britanske krajolike, ovo je idealan trip za vas.
